WHEN IS THE TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP?
June 21-24, 2012
WHAT IS BIRDIES FOR CHARITY?
Birdies for Charity is a pledge-based fundraiser available to Connecticut non-profits as part of the Travelers Championship PGA TOUR Golf Tournament at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, CT. CT FIRST has partnered with the Travelers Championship to offer this program to CT FIRST teams to help them with their fundraising. Teams from all FIRST programs are able to participate - FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST Tech Challenge, FIRST LEGO League and Junior FIRST LEGO League.
HOW DOES BIRDIES FOR CHARITY WORK?
Team members ask friends and family members to pledge a small amount of money for each birdie recorded at the 2012 Travelers Championship this June. For example, if an individual makes a 1-cent ($0.01) pledge and there are 1,500 birdies, that individual will be asked to make a $15.00 donation to the CT FIRST team of their choice. It is common that between 1,500 and 2,000 birdies are made during the Championship. Just as high school athletic teams sell various items to raise funds for their teams, FIRST team members can go door to door in their neighborhoods or pledges can easily be raised through electronic communications. FIRST team members can be creative by approaching local restaurants and stores for pledges, and by asking their parents’ companies and others to support their FIRST team through the Birdies for Charity fundraiser. Pledges can be as low as one penny!
